MÉLISSANDRE LEMOËL, SPEAKER AT THE EVENT LAB

INTRODUCE YOURSELF!

Mélissandre Lemoël, from New Caledonia, graduated in 2020, Freelance Event Project Manager and speaker at the ICD Business School in Paris for 2 years.

WHAT IS THE EVENT LAB? WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITHIN THE EVENT LAB?

As its name suggests, the “Event lab” is the event laboratory for Bachelor Event Management students. Our role as a coach is to supervise students from the 1st year to the 3rd year of their bachelor's degree on projects to the production of their event and/or the final recommendation in front of a real client.

HOW ARE THE COURSES AT THE EVENT LAB?

The courses are more user-friendly, with the same spirit of teamwork that one might find in an event agency. The students are in groups to create their events, they have the opportunity to test the different poles they could have in an event agency over the 3 years and above all to develop their creativity throughout the projects.

WHAT TYPE OF TEACHING DO YOU OFFER?

The heart of this course is “learning by doing”. We work as a team, with a supervisory role, under the conditions of an event agency, going through the different stages of creating an event. Customer diagnosis, creation, logistics, communication, logistics marketing, event production, analysis and customer recommendation.

WHAT TYPE OF JOB ARE YOUR STUDENTS PREPARING FOR?

A range of skills that allows you to have several hats!
Event Project Manager, Artistic Director, Event Project Manager, Event Venue Manager, Production Manager, Logistics Manager, Tour Leader, Guest Management Manager, Community Manager, etc.

IF YOU HAD ONE ADVICE FOR STUDENTS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

It is a sector that allows you to send impactful messages, but it is above all a profession of passion in my opinion. You have to have the value of “challenging things” to design and carry out a project! Where you have to be on the alert for developments and always be interested in them.

TELL US ABOUT THE CONFERENCES STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON. WHY ARE THIS TYPE OF PRACTICAL CASES IMPORTANT IN THEIR CURRICULUM WITHIN THE LAB?

Since March the students have been creating their first event, a conference on a subject they have chosen. The 2 groups had to look at the analysis of the latter, think about the format, the content of the conference, the management of the speakers, everything that includes logistics, scenography, site etc. And the part that takes students the most time is of course the communication and marketing of their event.

FOCUS ON THE TWO CONFERENCES:

SMILE4KIDZ is there to convey a message of awareness and prevention to participants against childhood cancer with a collection of donations that will be donated to the 3 associations present:
Princess Margot, Imagine for Margo and the Aïda Association.

ICD Fashion Art is the conference that will focus on fashion and art. For this conference, there will be an intervention from 2 big houses (Dior and Chanel) as well as the founder of a brand of made-to-measure suits (Vestibus Club), followed by a fashion show with designers.

LEA MILOVANOVIC, FIRST-YEAR BACHELOR EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDENT.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF!

My name is Lea Milovanovic, I am 20 years old and I am currently a first year student of the Bachelor event Management.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?

I was in a general high school and I passed a scientific baccalaureate. After high school, I did a year of Paces (1st year of medicine) then I changed to business school and chose the ICD Business School in Paris.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE BACHELOR OPTION EVENT MANAGEMENT?

I chose the ICD Business School's Bachelor in Event Management because I wanted to follow an event course that offered practice, not just theory, and which also offered an international career.

HOW ARE THE COURSES AT THE EVENT LAB?

The Event Lab classes are going well. We have missions to do every week and thanks to this course, you can really understand how an event is organized from A to Z. Apart from the main subject of our event, everything is chosen by the students who are autonomous even if we
are still supervised by our teachers.

HOW DO PRACTICAL CASES SUCH AS SETTING UP CONFERENCES HELP YOU IN YOUR CURRICULUM?

Use cases help us see what the reality of organizing events is. We see the good sides as the most complex. This year, with the Event Lab, we have to organize a conference. We organized it from start to finish, that is to say from the conception of the event to its realization. This practical case helps us in our course because it really shows us what events are.

WHAT CAREER WILL YOU GO TO AFTER YOUR STUDIES?

After my 3 years of bachelor studies, I will probably continue my studies but I would turn more towards the job of project manager.

IF YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE TO GIVE TO A YOUTH WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

My advice would be: you have to work very hard because events are a very complex world, but if you are really interested and passionate about it, you have to go for it.
