MAÉLIE VANNIER: STUDIES, COMMITMENT AND COMMUNITY LIFE!

During your studies, getting involved by joining an association is not only an opportunity to flourish, but also a very concrete way to develop transversal skills. This commitment represents an essential aspect of the student because associations play a major role on campus in terms of animation, social ties, solidarity and creation. Associations are also the possibility of promoting, within the course, the skills and knowledge acquired and getting involved allows you to acquire skills that will be valued on your CV, as demonstrated by Maélie Vannier, student in her 5th year of the Grande Ecole program, in this tailor-made interview.

Introduce yourself!

Hello, my name is Maélie Vannier and I am in my 5th year of the Grande Ecole Program at the ICD.

Can you detail your background at ICD Business School?

I started my studies in the Bachelor Event Management from which I graduated in 2020 and I decided to continue by doing a Master's degree, specializing in Responsible Commerce. In parallel to my courses, I needed to find an association that suited me so I joined the BDE in my first year and in my 3rd and 5th year I joined the Voiles de l'IGS (as president in the 4th year) and became a member of the BDA.

Can you tell us about the community life of the ICD Business School? And what topics do they cover?

Being a member of the ICD Business School associations means living a unique and enriching experience. The purpose of its associations is to bring the school but also the IGS Group to life: organization of events, integration of students and new students, promotion of the values of the ICD Business School, meeting many professionals but above all beautiful encounters.

You were part of the BDE of the ICD Business School, can you tell us how this experience was? What did it bring to your life as a student?

Being in my final year, I'm already nostalgic of that time! Having been in the BDE has brought me a lot of maturity, great open-mindedness and more skills in events. But above all, I was lucky to be part of such a great team. To be in the BDE, it’s to open up to the student life at 100,000 an hour, but that is what makes the richness of this association.

What roles have you taken on within your various associations? And what projects have you been able to set up during your experiences?

I was responsible for the event division in the BDE, a division in which several students worked on all campuses and external events at the school (afterwork, sponsored events, theme evenings, etc.) From being the president to participating in Les Voiles de l'IGS, where my team and I organized events and sought sponsors to participate in the EDHEC Cruise Race and finally, being a member of the BDA where we all work together on the development of several events and operations such as the ski trip, the integration evening, etc.

Tell us about your experiences within the BDA and the association Les Voiles de l’IGS?

The BDA and Les Voiles are two associations that are close to my heart and where I feel good. Finally, participating in the EDHEC Cruise Race (the biggest student sporting event in Europe) was one of the best experiences of my life and to have been president last year despite the health context was a real honor. The BDA is thr dream association! Since my 1st year I have always wanted to be part of it and today I am in a crazy team with whom we organize events on an incredible scale.

What do you think is the added value of an association on the CV?

Being a member of a student association, on a CV, is a real added value because we gain many skills in addition to those acquired during internships or work-study programs: management and organization of events, teamwork, stress management , managing a heavy workload, open-mindedness, maturity, etc. Concretely, saying that we are members of associations in addition to our studies makes us students with an atypical background (in a very positive sense).

Do you have any advice for those eligible to choose their school?

Above all, choosing a school in which you feel good is the most important thing. It is in this school that you will spend the most time and therefore you must feel at home.

An anecdote ?

There are so many ! Let's say that my best anecdote was being a student at the ICD Business School!
