ICDians around the world: Dublin

At ICD Business School we train efficient and responsible sales and marketing managers to work in a local as well as an international environment. International mobility is an important part of our students' training. Thus, from the first year onwards, our ICD students are encouraged to experience foreign countries through various tailor-made programmes. Dublin is one of the key destinations. The main objectives of this study stay are to discover the Anglo-Saxon culture and to reinforce the learning of the English language.

Interview: Elodie Paquié, International Programmes Coordinator

On which trip are you?

We are in Dublin and I am escorting the first years' students on their first journey abroad.

What is the objective of this trip for the students?

The objective is for the students to be immersed in an English-speaking country in order to experience Anglo-Saxon practices in marketing and international business.

What is the objective of this trip? Credits, validation of the year?

The objective of this trip is firstly to validate a semester abroad in their first year. Secondly, the aim is the personal development of the students, to experience a new culture. This is the only semester where students from the Paris and Toulouse campuses are together.

What is the content of the programme?

As far as the courses are concerned, it is a mix of marketing, business development, cross-cultural management, social entrepreneurship, English and TOEFL courses, enterprise visits and the meeting of professionals and their network with a common project: the product launch, which enables them to put into practise the theoretical knowledge they have learnt in class.
Of course it is not only the "academic" side of this stay, the students are also led to visit cultural places in Dublin. They have the chance to discover these places on their own and Ireland is full of historical and wonderful places. There is no better way to practice your English language skills.

Interview: Francesca Porru, 1st year student of the Grande Ecole Programme

Where are you? In which context? For how long?

I am in Dublin for 3 months as part of my studies.

Why are you here?

I have left for my studies in exchange for my second semester abroad. I also wanted to improve my English, discover new things and change my environment.

What is your daily routine in Dublin?

Every morning I have breakfast and then I go to get ready. I take the tram to school with my friends. At lunchtime we all get together so we can spend as much time as possible together, we laugh, we tell each other stories... At the end of the day, most of the time I go home with my friends, we prepare some food and we all eat together. Sometimes we also go for a walk in the city after school. We spend the evening in the living room watching a film or just chatting. On weekends, we also invite some friends over to enjoy ourselves and have fun together.

How is the community life on site and with the other icdians?

The community life is pretty good. I was lucky enough to be with classmates and friends from Toulouse. We all get along well and have a good laugh together.

A story about the trip?

I've been in Dublin for a few weeks so nothing has happened to me yet. Maybe at the end of this experience I can tell you more!
